“I have always felt an instinctual need to create,” says collage photography artist Giancarlo LaGuerta.
Botswana-born collage photography artist, Giancarlo Laguerta, discovered his artistry in a country where contemporary art had little influence. This cast him into a world of doubt before he finally allowed his artistry to flourish.
Giancarlo always felt the need to create, so it was of no surprise to him when he realized he couldn’t dedicate himself to any other field asides from art. This realization intensified after his admission into law school.

Artistic influences
Experiencing beautiful creations inspires Giancarlo to create. Some artists who directly influence his photography are Dmitri Pryahin, Elizaveta Porodina, Kristin-Lee Moolman, Harley Weir, Imraan Christian, and several others.
Ongoing work
“I’m working on making pictures you can’t glance at and forget about. Images you have to stare at, images that leave a lasting impression,” says Giancarlo.
“I don’t want to say exactly what I’m working on, it’s really difficult to articulate, you’ll simply have to see what I’m talking about as I keep putting stuff out.”
Collage photography artistic representation
Giancarlo prefers not to give meaning to his works because he believes people share different relationships with artworks. He understands that every image conveys different meanings to different people, so he prefers to let his audience and admirers experience a personal connection with his art free from influence.

Legacy and expectations
Giancarlo wants nothing more than to be recognized, respected, and celebrated for his brilliance and artistry while he’s still alive. He says, “Ultimately, I want to be remembered as one of the greats; In my country, in my region, in my profession, in the world. I just want to be remembered.”
