Depicting skies and landscapes at altitude
Antony enjoys exploring the skies in his paramotor, flying above, around, and sometimes within the clouds. “The atmosphere and light at several thousand feet can be extremely fascinating,” Antony says. “So I make notes and color sketches immediately. I land to preserve the memories I later make into paintings.”

Painting large seascapes
Antony says he’s been working on some large seascapes, with a focus on the clouds, using heavy impasto work with a palette knife leaving abstracted areas where he doesn’t want eyes wandering to. Asides from this, he also has a number of figurative pieces in progress. He says, “I juggle pieces around depending on how I feel.”

I finished this piece this morning. I have painted this scene on four occasions now and at different times of the year. There’s something quite magical about standing on the rocks while looking out across the ocean at a symphony of infinite color about to perfectly morph into night…then just as it is almost dark I can hear drunken laughter coming from the ship inn…so I decided to investigate.

Artistic style
“My figurative painting is all about depicting the mood and intimacy within a moment, using a loose approach to my brushwork,” says Antony. “I try to be spontaneous while carefully considering placement of strong contrasting values to create depth.”
