Contemporary Art Prints | 8 Trending Styles

These contemporary art prints will have you drooling (in a GOOD way)!

contemporary art prints

OMG, you’re going to love these contemporary art prints. They remind me of visits to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco.

I don’t know about you, but I like to have more neutral furniture (neutral colors, clean lines) and then add in stunning works of art, colorful pillows, wall hangings, and bright fabrics to set the tone.

Finding the right artwork is essential. If you’re like me, you know it when you see it and I’ve scoured the internet for the perfect pieces. I’ve included some options for different taste pallets: the mid-century art lover, the nature enthusiast, the pop art fan, and more!

In this post, I’m going to share art prints–plus some other beautiful art-inspired goodies, like pillows, tapestries, and throw blankets–that will turn your home into a hip hangout.

This post is all about contemporary art prints.

1. Mid-Century Modern

Mid-century modern (MCM) is an American design movement that was popular from approximately 1945 to 1969.  It is usually characterized by clean, simple lines, plain materials, and it typically doesn’t include gaudy embellishments. Visually, it’s closely related to Minimalism, which gained traction as established artists in the early 1960s began moving toward geometric abstraction.

2. Art Deco

Art Deco originated in France shortly before the start of World War I. It rose in popularity in America in the roaring 1920s. In its heyday, Art Deco represented glamour, sophistication, luxury, and excitement over technological progress. By the 1930s, Art Deco designs became more subdued to reflect the tone of economic strife. Now, Art Deco adds a feeling of a simpler exuberate time when flappers mesmerized and men wore fedoras.

3. Abstract Strokes, Drips, and Splats

Think of Jackson Pollock’s splatter paintings and Franz Kline’s bold brushstrokes. These artworks connect with our feelings, desires, spontaneity, and passion through the rich use of color and texture.

4. Line Art

Line art is simple and elegant. Artists can use a pen, a brush, or digital tools to create images that often look like drawings in a coloring book. When you display line art prints, it shows that you have modern taste and like to keep life uncluttered.

5. Surrealism

Surrealism gained prominence in the 1920s and continued throughout the 1950s. Surreal paintings feature illogical scenes that seem real. Think of Salvador Dali’s melting clocks, Max Ernst’s strange animals with mechanical components, and so on. Surreal prints add a whimsical, slightly unsettling vibe that gets your subconscious to see the world differently.
