Artist Maria Susarenko creates beautiful mixed media drawings inspired by nature, classical architecture, and mythology.
Maria Susarenko is an artist and a member of the Russian Artist’s Union. Maria is a graduate of the Stieglitz St. Petersburg State Academy of Art and Industry. She passed through special graphic design courses at St. Martin’s College in London. She also studied graphics and painting in the studios of L.Bashkhov and I.Vasilyev.
Maria’s mixed media drawings are in private collections in Paris, Prague, Sydney, Philadelphia, Moscow, Italy, London, Helsinki, Bogota, and other cities and countries.

The most important part of life
“Art is the most important part of my life,” Maria says. “I started to attend art school when I was five years old, my grandmother brought me there. I took part in the first art exhibition in 1997 when I was five and won a prize. Since that time I devoted myself to art!”

Maria studied in art school for 11 years, then she earned a Specialists Degree in 2016 and Masters Degree in 2018. She spends at least 9 – 11 hours every day creating new artworks or working on previous ones.
Sources of inspiration for Maria’s mixed media drawings
“When I studied at the Art Academy, my professor of painting was very important for me,” Maria says. “He is the famous Russian artist Alexander Gouschin.” Maria also loves old masters, such as the paintings of Sandro Botticelli and Claude Monet, and the graphics of Albrecht Durer. She also likes some contemporary artists. “I read a lot of books about art history,” she adds. “Now I’m reading a biography of Picasso. Also, I try to read at least 3 books about art history and artists every month.”
Exhibitions and honors
Maria has taken part in more than 50 art exhibitions. The most valuable award she received was The Gold Medal for her graphic artwork in 2019.
Her favorite quote is: “I have never listened to anyone who criticized my taste in space travel, sideshows or gorillas. When this occurs, I pack up my dinosaurs and leave the room.” – Ray Bradbury
Maria was born in Kostanai city, the Republic of Kazakhstan. She now lives and works in Kotka, Kymenlaakso, Finland.
